The Chinese alumina market is unlikely to see significant improvement in the short term. The oversupply resulting from stable factory production remains unchanged, and expected production cuts have been further delayed due to falling costs. Therefore, short-term alumina prices are likely to remain under pressure. In the medium to long term, large-scale production cuts will be needed to support alumina prices. However, new production capacity may also come online, and the impact of the new balance between production cuts/closures and new capacity on price trends will need to be monitored.
